- Jun 22, 2018 I have had numerous software issues with my V600 Epson scanner with my MacBook Pro. Latest issue is scanning 2-1/4 in square negatives. The scan is cropped. I called Epson and was given some technical help with fixing the issue by manipulating the thumbnails in preview. The tech advised they have had software issues with scanning medium format.
VueScan is compatible with the Epson Perfection V600 on Windows x86, Windows x64, Mac OS X and Linux.

I have since learned that Epson doesn't really care about us Mac users. The drivers that ARE available are years behind Apple. My MacBook Pro is running High Sierra 10.13.6. Does Epson think I should go back to OS's that are years old in order to use this product, which was introduced years ago. The Epson Perfection V600 Photo is a low-price device for beginners in the series of Epson flatbed scanners. In the cover plate there is a transparency unit integrated, so that the scanner is suitable both for scanning documents and for digitizing slides and negatives. The scanner provides a good image quality when scanning documents and is fast.
Epson V600 Scanner Manual
This scanner has an infrared lamp for scanning film. VueScan's 'Filter | Infrared clean' option can be used to remove dust spots from film scans. This is similar to (and we think better than) the ICE and FARE algorithms.
Epson V600 Software Mac High Sierra Vista
It scans with visible light in the first pass and with infrared light in the second pass.
Infrared cleaning works well with all types of color negative and color slide film, including Kodachrome. However, silver-based black/white film doesn't work with infrared cleaning because the silver particles look the same in visible light and infrared light.

You need to install the Epson driver to use this scanner on Windows x86 and Mac OS X. On Mac OS X, this is normally already installed by Software Update, so VueScan should just work.
You need to install the Epson driver to use this scanner on Linux.
Note that Epson drivers for Windows Vista or later will usually work on Windows 10. Drivers for Mac OS X 10.6 or later will also usually work on Mac OS X 10.12 (Sierra).
